"Go to home" and "go home": why Korean students add articles where English drops them
- Do the C/X exercise BEFORE explaining the rule. Let them spot the pattern first.
- The function test works better than a memorised list. "Doing the normal thing there?" is a question they can apply to new places.
- British vs American: "hospital" and "university" vary. If your students are sitting TOEFL or the SAT, check which form the test uses and drill that one.
- This clicks fastest with intermediate students who already control basic article use. Elementary students should master a/an/the with common nouns first.
- Expect relapses. The Korean particle system is strong, and this exception takes months to automate.
