Why your first hagwon paycheck never matches the number in your contract
- Use this with new teachers in orientation week, not with students — it's not classroom material.
- Encourage teachers to request a written, itemized payslip (급여명세서) from month one, in Korean and English if possible.
- Flag the tax treaty question early: it needs to go through the National Tax Service, not just the school's accountant.
- If a school can't explain a deduction line by line, that's worth raising before signing a renewal.
