Why Korean Speakers Turn "I've Eaten" Into "I Ate"
- The "same event, two sentences" drill (item 2 in the body) works better live than on paper — students hear the difference in how natural the follow-up question sounds.
- Don't correct "Yes, I went" as wrong when answering "Have you ever...?" — it's understandable and near-native learners still slip into it. Model the perfect form back once, then move on.
- Keep a running list on the classroom wall of the seven signal words (already, yet, just, ever, never, for, since). Point at it silently when a student makes the error — faster than explaining every time.
- The "for five years" continuing-action use is the hardest of the three jobs. Save it for a separate day rather than teaching all three uses at once.
