Teacher notes — Grammar for Korean Speakers
Why Korean speakers say "I am agree" and "discuss about it": verbs that don't take a preposition
- Model the rule with a gesture: hold your hands together for the verb and the object, no gap for an extra word.
- Write the wrong Korean-style sentence and the right English one side by side on the board every time it comes up naturally.
- Keep drills short (5 minutes), repeated across several classes, rather than one long grammar lesson.
- Don't correct every slip at once. Pick one verb a week (agree, then discuss, then marry) so it sticks.
- For a stronger class: ask students to find one more verb like this at home (resemble, approach, mention) and bring it the next class.
