Student handout — Grammar for Korean Speakers

Why Korean speakers say "I am agree" and "discuss about it": verbs that don't take a preposition

No extra word! (agree, discuss, marry, answer, enter, attend)

Word bank

WordSimple meaning
agreeto think the same as someone
discussto talk about something
marryto become someone's husband or wife
answerto say back after a question
enterto go into a place
attendto go to (a class, a show)

Rule: These verbs do NOT need "am," "about," "with," or "into" after them.

Wrong: I am agree. Discuss about it. Marry with him. Right: I agree. Discuss it. Marry him.

  1. Circle the correct one: (I am agree / I agree) with my friend.
  2. Cross out the extra word: We discussed about the movie.

  4. Fix it: He married with a teacher last year.
  5. Write your own sentence with "attend": ______________________
