Teacher notes — Classroom Games
Whisper Down the Line
- Keep round-one sentences at 8 to 12 words for a middle school class so the whisper chain has something to actually lose.
- Pick sentences with a clear opinion in them ("Students should get more free time") so step 6 turns into real discussion, not just spelling correction.
- Rotate the starting student every round so the same two or three kids aren't always carrying the chain.
- Two shorter lines running at once beats one long line in a loud classroom.
- For a stronger class, switch whispering for a folded note passed hand to hand, and let the sentence run 15 to 18 words with a clause in it.
