Teacher notes — Discussion & Debate

Weekend Gaming Time: Should Kids Play Games on School Nights?

  • Timing: warm-up 5 min, vocab 8 min, pros/cons board 10 min, pair discussion 10 min, vote and feedback 7 min.
  • Drill "tired" separately. Korean speakers often say "I'm boring" when they mean "I'm tired" or "bored", and this topic brings that mistake up constantly.
  • During pair work, circulate and listen for the "because" clause, not grammar accuracy. The goal is a reason, not a perfect sentence.
  • Keep the vote genuinely open. Some classes will land almost all on one side, that's a fine outcome too.
  • For a stronger class: add a third column, "What's a fair rule?", and have pairs write one rule a parent and a kid could both agree to, using "should" ("We should play for 30 minutes, then do homework.").
