The Tax Treaty That Can Wipe Out Your Korean Income Tax for Two Years
- Ask your recruiter or director directly whether they've filed a tax treaty exemption for a foreign teacher before — a "no" isn't disqualifying, but it means you'll need to push.
- Do this in your first month. Retroactive claims are possible but slow and usually require your own tax agent.
- Keep every payslip. If a refund claim happens later, you'll need the paper trail, not a promise.
- This does not apply automatically just because you're a native English speaker from an English-speaking country — it depends on your specific nationality's treaty text.
