Teacher notes — Grammar for Korean Speakers
Say Versus Tell: The Verb Swap Every Korean Speaker Makes
- Write the say/tell table on the board before drilling — students need the visual, not just the spoken rule.
- Expect regression under time pressure (speaking games, timed writing). This error fades slowly; don't grade it harshly in the first few weeks of a term.
- The "add or delete to" drill works better than pure choice drills because it forces attention to the preposition itself, not just verb choice.
- If a student says "said to me" correctly but "told to me" incorrectly, that's actually progress — it means the say rule is fixed and only tell is left.
