Replacing teachers with AI tutors: a discussion lesson for Korean high schoolers who've seen the apps their parents already bought

  • Assign sides randomly. If students pick their own side they'll all choose AGAINST and the debate dies.
  • The two votes at the end (better argument vs. personal belief) will not match. That gap is worth discussing — it means they can see both sides.
  • When a student mentions using ChatGPT, don't scold. Ask the class whether that's a problem, and let them argue. They're harder on each other than you'd be.
  • If the class is lower than advanced high school, cut two argument cards per side and give them more prep time. The topic still works but they'll need scaffolding.
  • Save five minutes at the end for the follow-up questions. The formal debate is where they practice English; the follow-up is where they say what they actually think.
