No-Kids Zones: Discussion Handout

Situation: A café near your school has a sign: "No children under 13 allowed." A parent with a 10-year-old wants to go in for cake. The owner says no.

Vocabulary

  • discrimination — treating a person unfairly because of a group they belong to
  • liability — being legally responsible if something goes wrong
  • exception — a case where the normal rule doesn't apply
  • policy — a rule a business decides to follow

Discuss with your partner. Write two arguments for your side.
