Make, Let, and Have: The Causative Verb Korean Speakers Mix Up

Make, Let, or Have?

Korean uses one pattern (시키다 / -게 하다 — sikida / -ge hada) for all of these. English uses three different verbs. Read each sentence and circle the correct one.

1. My dad (made / let) me use his laptop because I asked nicely.
2. The teacher (had / let) the students clean the classroom before leaving. (no choice, assigned)
3. She (made / had) her brother carry the boxes. He didn't want to.
4. My manager (let / had) me take Friday off when I asked.
5. He (got / made) his friend to lend him money. (took some convincing)
