Teacher notes — Discussion & Debate
Korea's Push to Raise the Retirement Age to 65 Divides the Room
- Keep the warm-up numbers-free at first — let students guess the current age (60) before you confirm it, it usually surprises them.
- Adult classes with office workers will bring up 임금피크제 (imgeum-pikeuje) unprompted; have a one-sentence definition ready but don't let it hijack the debate.
- If the class is mixed-age, seat younger and older students on opposite debate teams on purpose — the disagreement is more real that way.
- Confirm the latest committee proposal before class; the phase-in year has shifted more than once in reporting.
