Teacher notes — Discussion & Debate
Korea's Minimum Wage Crossed 10,000 Won, and Your High Schoolers Already Have a Job to Compare It To
- Confirm the current year's minimum wage figure before class — it changes every January and this number will be outdated eventually.
- Good for classes of 8+ where you can split into three debate groups; for smaller classes, run it as one open discussion instead.
- Some students' parents own small businesses affected by minimum wage changes. Frame questions around the policy, not their family, unless a student brings it up themselves.
- If the class is lower-level, pre-teach "inflation" and "automation" before the debate — they come up constantly and derail momentum if nobody understands them.
