Teacher notes — Discussion & Debate
Korea's generation-ban cigarette law splits the classroom
- Confirm the current status of the Korean proposal before class; it moves in and out of the news and may or may not be active legislation when you teach this.
- The warm-up about sibling rules works best with a personal example from you first; it lowers the bar for students to share theirs.
- Assign debate sides randomly, not by real opinion. The mismatch between assigned side and final vote is the most useful five minutes of the lesson.
- If the class is quiet on this topic, pivot to vaping, which nearly every Korean high schooler has an opinion about.
