Teacher notes — Discussion & Debate
Korea debates a 3pm school day, and your elementary class has opinions
- Pre-teach "free time," "tired," and "alone" with gestures or pictures before the frames, these three carry most of the opinion work.
- Expect most students to say "earlier," since it matches their real schedule and after-school plans. That's fine, push for reasons, not just a side.
- Write both column headings on the board before pair talk so students can point instead of searching for words.
- Skip any mention of Korean policy names or OECD comparisons, "later" vs "earlier" is the whole frame they need.
- For a stronger class: add a third option, "the same, but with a long recess in the middle," and have groups design their ideal schedule on paper.
