Student handout — Grammar for Korean Speakers
I Very Like It: The Adverb Mistake Korean English Speakers Make
Fix the "Very" Mistake
Rule: "Very" can go with adjectives (very tall, very tired). It cannot go directly with a verb (NOT: I very like it).
For verbs, use: really, love, or [verb] + very much
Correct these sentences
- I very like this movie.
- She very wants a new phone.
- We very enjoyed the trip.
- He very misses his family.
- I very want to sleep.
Sort these — VERY OK or VERY NOT OK?
- very hungry
- very like
- very tired
- very want
- very surprised
- very love
Write your own
Write two true sentences about yourself using "really." Write two true sentences using "very much."
