Military Service at 18: Discussion Tasks

Task 1 — Individual (5 min) Write your answers in English. One paragraph each.

1. Should Korea lower the conscription age to 18? Why or why not?
2. Personal question:

• If you will serve: Would you rather go at 18 or wait until later?
• If you won't serve: Is it fair that only men have to go?

Task 2 — Pairs (10 min) Work with someone of the same gender. Compare your answers. Prepare two arguments to share with the class.

Task 3 — Groups of Four (15 min) Work with two boys and two girls if possible.

Your group must agree on:

• Three pros of lowering the age to 18
• Three cons of lowering the age to 18

Rank them from most important (1) to least important (3). Write them in English on one paper. Everyone's name on the paper.

Task 4 — Class Discussion (10 min) Each group shares their top pro and top con.
