  International Driver License
Dear Michelle,

Some teachers choose to drive in Korea and it would be a good idea to get the international drivers license. It will be likely that you use public transportation, but the international license may come in handy if you plan to take a road trip and renting a car.

The public transportation of Korea is clean, accessible, efficient and inexpensive- and the same apply to taxis. Buses run often and are cheap (under $1.00). You can travel on subways for an hour for about $1.00. Taxis start at $1.90.

International Driver Licenses are recognized in Korea and valid for a year from the date of entry. The Korean government does not issue International Driver Licenses for foreigners; these licenses must be obtained outside of Korea.

You may wish to visit one of these web sites for additional information on obtaining an international drivers license:

The American Automobile Association (AAA): http://ww1.aaa.com/scripts/WebObjects.dll/ZipCode
The National Auto Club: http://www.nationalautoclub.com/html/idp.html
The 21st Century Insurance Company 800-622-5292 :https://www.21st.com/cg/homepage.do
Also see the section on traffic laws in the part about legal problems, or more details on Road Safety Overseas.

Sincerely,
Park English Team
