 Alien Registration

 

If you want to stay in korea more than 90 days, you are required to register at a local immigration office having the jurisdiction over the place of your stay within 90 days from the date of your entry

¡Ø It is punishable that you stay in Korea more than 90 days without being registered

To register, you should make an application to a local or district Immigration office having jurisdiction over the place of your stay, either by visiting in person or by proxy

Note) If an applicant is under the age of 17, he/she can either get an Alein Registration card independently, or just get recorded on his/her parent's Alien Registration card as a dependent (In this case, his/her parent's Alien Registration card needs to be submitted)

 


Document requirements are as follows

Application forms (Downloadable forms)

A travel document ex) passport

2 color photos (3§¯¡¿4§¯)

Other documents each category of visa may require addtionally

Fees (10,000 won)

 

If your application is accepted, the Immigration officer in charge will stamp your passport and issue an Alien Registration card to you

It usally takes 3 or 4 days for the applicant to get  the Alien Registration card

 

If you get registered, you are obliged to observe the accompanying  duties below

To carry the Alien Registration card

You , while in Korea, should always carry with you a travel document, an alien registration card, etc, in case an Immigration officers during his official duty asks you to present either of those documents

¡Ø Foreigners under the age of 17 are exempt from this duty

To apply for re-issuance of the lost or damaged Alien Registration card

If your Alien Registration card is lost or damaged, you should apply for reissuance of the lost or damaged card to a local or district Immigration office having jurisdiction over the place of your stay, within 14 days since such events occur

To report changes of particulars of Alien Registration card

You should report changes of particulars of your Alien Registration card to a local or district immigration office having jurisdiction over the place of their stay, within 14 days  since the changes occur

To return the Alien Registration card, when leaving Korea, etc

You should return your Alien Registration card to an Immigration officer, when leaving Korea ,or when you acquire Korean nationality

However, you are exmpt from this duty, if you are

  - A registered foreigner who has obtained a re-entry permit, and plans to re-enter Korea within the period of re-entry given

  - A registered foreigner who has a multiple visa, or a national of Re-entry Permit Waiver countries and wishes to re-enter Korea within the period of stay given

  - A foreigner who has received a refugee travel document, and wishes to leave just temporarily and re-enter Korea before the refugee travel document expires
